Going Green

Global warming is such a vitally important issue, that we have decided to take the initiative and dramatically reduce the impact our operation has on the environment.

We at Peninsula have carried out an environmental audit with our 'green dragon' advisor and have identified some key areas where we can change our practices and dramatically reduce our impact on the environment.

We felt it particularly important to 'Go Green' since we are ourselves offering green products to our customers. Some examples are solar water heating systems, energy efficient glazing that is up to three times as efficient as standard double glazing and hardwood windows, doors and conservatories from managed forests.

Peninsula will be the first home improvement company in North Wales to sign up to this initiative. As well as helping to slow down global warming we also feel it gives our company a chance to stand out from the crowd.

In partnership with:

What we have done already:

  • Convert to using bio-diesel for all our diesel vehicles, saving a massive 80 tonnes of Co2 a year.
  • Source our FSC certified timber products from ethical sources. Growing one tonne of timber uses over 50 kilos of C02, which is how much an average car produces over 70,000 miles. For every tree cut down, three are planted.
  • Installed a solar water system in our showroom, which can save 70% of a households hot water expense using the power of the sun without burning fossil fuels.
  • Re-use the reverse of all suitable waste office paper to use for internal paperwork.
  • Convert to low energy computer screens.

What we are going to do:

  • Reduce the journeys by planning our installations and service department to carry out many jobs in the same area at the same time. Vehicle tracking systems may be used to minimise wasted journeys and to see where people are when service calls come in.
  • Cut our skipped waste in half by sorting and recycling all waste including old window frames from customers' properties.
  • Install energy saving bulbs in the office as the existing ones expire.
  • Switch off unnecessary computers.

What we are also considering:

  • Purchasing our electricity requirements from a renewable energy supplier.
  • Planting trees with orders to offset our carbon emissions.
  • Sponsor some environmental awareness schemes for school kids.

If you have any ideas or additional input, or comments we would be very pleased to hear them!
