Peninsula help DIY SOS team come to the aid of family

BBC makeover programme DIY SOS came to Gaerwen last week to help a fmaily in distress. The programme came to the aid of 39-year-old father Joe James and his family, who had encountered more than their fair share of bad luck during the last six years.
These troubles meant work on the family home, which he bought in 1991 and shared with children Ryan, 13, Kerry, 12, Lewis, six and Danny, five, was left unfinished. Work on a much needed new extension had been put on the back burner for four years and in the meantime the family had been forced to live in a cold caravan in the garden.
The SOS team finished the extension and renovation at the family's home. The team had the help of several local businesses and skilled workers, including Peninsula Home Improvements, Star Carpets and Huws Gray builders merchants. The team endlessly praised the local workers who had volunteered their time in aid of the project.
Presenter Nick Knowles siad: "The local community have been absolutely stunning. They've been here working long hours for days - they've worked their socks off."
Designer Julia Kendell said: "It's the first time we've ever done a big build like this. This is absolutely the biggest thing we've ever created - in fact, I think it's the biggest thing the BBC has ever done. But we couldn't have done it without all the local help."
Peninsula managing director Ken Grayson said: "We were contacted by the BBC, who had been given our name by another company involved in the building project and were more than happy to support such a worthy project that will turn the family's dream of having their own home again intoa reality."
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. James said: "I'm so grateful tot eh BBC for choosing this project and to Peninsula Home Improvements and all the other companies involved in the project. It will make a tremendous difference to me and my family. It is a dream come true."
